The W810i is the upgraded version of the very popular 800i, which was the first Walkman branded mobile phone. The keys are raised and it has a 5-way navigation button for easy maneuvering. It uses EDGE for internet access with a system connector that enables faster data transfer from phone to PC and PC to phone. This port also serves as a charging port. The display is 1.1×1.4” and displays in 263 colors. The internal memory is 20MB with a 2GB memory stick duo expansion slot. The battery is lithium ion and has a talk time of eight hours.
The Sony Ericsson W810i is designed to be a music player phone. The media player supports both MP3 and AAC formats and audio quality is the best around. It has Mega Bass, a Sony standard feature that enhances bass frequencies for a better overall music experience. The phone comes bundled with a 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo. That is enough memory to store 20 full-length audio CD’s. The memory stick is expandable to 1GB. Software for ripping CD’s is supplied. In addition to the MP3 player there’s an FM radio. A headset is included in the sales package, and the phone can also be connected to an external speaker system via an optional cable.
The W810i has the same 2 megapixel camera as its predecessor. The features include autofocus, a 4x digital zoom, camera light and a video recorder. There is a built-in microphone for recording voice as well as for hands free conversing. It is Bluetooth compatible for both a stereo headset and wireless microphone, and has USB connections for use with the PC.
In addition to the music player and camera, the W810i is Internet browsing capable. Users can instant message as well as text and multimedia message. There are some games preinstalled on the phone and more can be downloaded if desired. It even has a melody composer to make ringtones with. Customizable ringtones can also be downloaded. Animated wallpaper, picture phonebook, and personal organizing features (business card exchanger, calendar, calculator, currency converter, etc.) that come standard on other cell phones are included with this one.
Additional accessories for the Sony Ericsson W810i are available both online and at your Sony dealer. Some functions that the phone may be able to do may not be available or supported by the user’s wireless provider. In addition, this phone may be available at a discounted rate with certain wireless provider’s rate plans.
