With most companies offering camera phones, and MP3 players, it’s hard to make a choice. LG’s KU990 mobile phone is a nice selection and is available on both pay as you go as well as with mobile phone service contract.

The KU990 is a candy bar style phone, slim, one piece and black. It does slide open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard for typing text messages, making it easier to message with this phone than with others of comparable value with the keypad. The view screen is a 3”, 400×240 pixel touch screen in millions of colors. It has 100MB of internal memory and can support up to a 2GB microSD expansion card. It also comes with the usual contact management database, organizer, calendar, alarm clock, and download features for wallpapers, ringtones and games. There is also an onscreen drawing/handwriting function that the phone will recognize as letters and numbers if you prefer not to type.
The biggest draw of the LG KU990 cell phone besides the QWERTY keyboard is the 5.1 megapixel camera. The camera is loaded with Schneider Kreuzenach optics, a Xenon Flash, manual and autofocus, image stabilizer, smartlight, face tracking and high speed video recording capability. In addition to autofocus, shooting options include panorama, burst shorts at 9 frames per second and still frame shot. Pictures are saved to the phone within 2 seconds of taking it. There is a jog button around the camera lens for focusing that also serves as the volume control when speaking on the phone, and scroll wheel for menus and paging through music. Video is recorded in VGA resolution and has a built-in microphone for capturing sound.
The KU990 by LG is also an MP3 media player. It can support all the standard media types as well as MPEG4/Divx video files. This technology allows the user to watch video clips, television shows and movies on the phone. The browsing options for the phone are made easier due to the jog button located around the camera lens.
LG model KU990 also support full HTML browsing. There is a Google application integration which includes the following preinstalled programs: Google Maps; Google Search; Gmail Mobile; Blogger Mobile; and YouTube video. Please note that some cellular carriers may not support these programs with their service. The user should verify that with their provider. E-mail support includes receipt of text messages with attachments in .PDF, Excel, PowerPoint and Word, .jpeg, 3gp, and MP3 format.
The KU990 is Bluetooth ready and comes standard with a charger and instructional booklet. Additional accessories are available for purchase and users should check with their providers for prices. The LG Viewty KU990 is not a smartphone, but it has other features that make up for it. Many mobile phone users do not have the need for a complicated smartphone, making this one a nice selection. If you have the need for a third-party software application, this is not the phone to purchase.
